The operational deployment of wholesale Central Bank Digital Currencies (mCBDC) has reached a critical tipping point as total transaction volume across regional settlement networks surpassed the $100 billion benchmark.
The joint platform, connecting central and commercial banks across East Asia and the Middle East, facilitates direct peer-to-peer foreign exchange settlement without relying on western correspondent banking intermediaries. By utilizing distributed ledger technology, participating corporations can execute simultaneous payment-versus-payment (PvP) settlements around the clock.
The system has proven particularly advantageous for bulk energy and commodities trade, where traditional settlement pipelines frequently tied up hundreds of millions of dollars in transit collateral.
